The Faculty of Political Science was firstly established in 1981 as a department under the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.   The Prince of Songkla University was the first university offering the political science program in the south of Thailand.   Initially, the department of Political science offered 2 programs ; (1) political science (Plan A)  and (2) Political Science in Southern Border Provinces of Thailand (Plan B).  Regarding the Plan B program, the department intended to focus on the special characteristic of the southern border provinces of Thailand and to respond to the needs of the locality.

            On May 1st, 2005 The Prince of Songkla University during its senate meeting unanimously decided to establish the Faculty of Political Science in Pattani Campus.  In order to meet the needs of the changing society, the faculty currently offers 4 main programs; (1) government (Plan A), (2) local government in Southern Border Provinces of Thailand (Plan B), (3) International Relations and (4) Public Policy.

         The organization?s vision is ?to be bound for excellence in southern border knowledge and multi-cultural society?.   Our prospective goal is to produce graduates with full political knowledge, public mind, understanding multi-cultural society and research skills.  In addition, the faculty also produces competent political knowledge pertaining to culture, society, economy and local politics.

         To attain our goal the faculty then offers courses relating to local culture,  politics, government, economic, and society in the southern region.  Moreover the institution also conducts the curriculums in the conflict management and management in multi-cultural society focusing on local issues as a comparative studies with other relevant countries.

         As a well-grounded institution in the Southern Region of Thailand, the faculty of political Science realizes its commitment to build a profound understanding through research and studies in subjects relate to southern border knowledge and multi-cultural society.  Thus, the faculty continues to retain its strong academic bond with community, country and globality.
